Below is Natsume's personal introduction
Takashi Natsume is the protagonist of the anime "Natsume's Book of Friends." He lost his parents at a young age and was adopted by distant relatives like the Fujiwara couple. He was born with powerful spiritual powers and could see the existence of monsters and gods, so he spent years drifting among relatives who shirked responsibility, and was bullied by peers. Natsume is kind, generous, and reliable, never complaining about his misfortune, whether toward humans or monsters. His appearance is typical of a Japanese boy, with delicate features that give off an impression of intelligence and gentleness. With short black hair and clear eyes, his image design is understated, further highlighting his inner kindness and innocence.
During a time whileescaping a monster's pursuit, Takashi Natsume accidentally opened the barrier sealing Teacher Nekomi. Through the narration of Teacher Neko and Reiko's belongings, he learns about the Book of Friends where contracts are signed with many yokai. To escape the pursuit of the demon horde and understand his grandmother, Takashi and Madara (Teacher Nekomi) make a pact to help Natsume return the name in the Book of Friends to the yokai. However, after Kishi dies, the book of friends belongs to Madara, so Natsume begins the path of returning the name to the yokai.
Takashi Natsume's interpersonal relationships include his grandmother Reiko Natsume, his adoptive father Shigeru Fujiwara, his adoptive mother Toko Fujiwara, and the bodyguard and pet cat teacher. He also has some human friends, such as Toru Takiki, Jun Sasada, Satoru Nishimura, Atsushi Kitamoto, and many yokai friends. Natsume Takashi's story is a heartwarming tale full of human philosophy. With the companionship of "Madara" and the care and encouragement of the Yahara yokai and classmates, Kishi experiences one bizarre story after another—strange, sad, and sentimental—and gradually learns to get along well with humans and yokai
